CM Suvendu Adhikari will attend Himanta Biswa Sarma’s oath ceremony in Assam

CM Suvendu Adhikari will travel to Assam on Tuesday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of the state. The West Bengal Chief Minister has received an invitation to attend the event, where several Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states will also be present.

Within the BJP, it is customary to invite Chief Ministers from other BJP-ruled states whenever the party forms a government after an election victory. Following that practice, Suvendu Adhikari, who took oath on Saturday as the Chief Minister of West Bengal’s first BJP government, has been invited to attend the Assam swearing-in ceremony.

Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to take the oath at 11:40 am on Tuesday at the Veterinary College playground in Khanapara, Guwahati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several senior BJP leaders are expected to attend the programme. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is also expected to travel to Guwahati for the event.

During Suvendu Adhikari’s swearing-in ceremony at Brigade Parade Ground last Saturday, senior BJP leaders and Chief Ministers from multiple BJP-ruled states attended the programme. Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, BJP national president J.P. Nadda, Yogi Adityanath, Manik Saha, Rekha Gupta, Samrat Choudhary, and Himanta Biswa Sarma were among the leaders present at the event.

On Sunday, Himanta Biswa Sarma was formally declared the leader of the NDA legislative party in the Assam Assembly. He later visited Lok Bhavan and met Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya to stake claim to form the government. In the 126-member Assam Assembly, the BJP won 82 seats, while the NDA alliance secured a total of 102 seats in the Assembly elections.
